About two years ago I sent a copy of my manuscript The Human Myth of Regan Priest to LUNA (a publishing company). They didn't offer to publish it (obviously) but the editor did give me some advice. He said while he liked the idea, there were a few things I could change.
So my worry now is that (as I get ready to start submitting it to agents and other editors) should I change stuff before I send it off, or keep it the way it is and send if off? Then if I hear back from a few people and they all say the same thing, I can start making changes.
Also, I can make a big change that will change a lot of little things (requiring massive amounts of editing), or change one little thing that will address the problem the editor saw, but not change too much else.
I've done it one way--changed a little thing. And the story is still pretty much as I originally wrote it. But now I'm trying to change the bigger stuff and I'm kind of liking it. But it's a lot of work and I'm kind of lazy... That's a lie, I'm very lazy. I don't want to have to change all this stuff only to have everyone turn it down anyway.
Plus there is something else I want to be writing and I don't have time to do both.
Then of course I liked the story I originally wrote. Some people (who don't really know me at all) also liked it. Maybe that one guy didn't like that one thing and now I'm changing it all when I don't have to.
Okay, I'm done whining. Back to work.
