Week 1

Yesterday I completed my first "week" at Spl (Mon-Thurs). First impressions are important, but not necessarily concrete, however I thought I'd take a moment to share mine.

Number 1) Hate that building. Hate. That. Building.

Number 2) The Bus is not as bad as I thought it would be.

Number 3) Librarians are nice... Odd, interesting dressers, sort of retro, but nice regardless of their sartorial expression.

Number 4) Hate those book carts. Freaking hate those book carts. Seriously.

Number 5) I've been there four days, for eight hours a day (minus my hour for lunch) and I've shelved five carts. Not that I can't do more, but there are a couple problems: 1) they don't schedule more than an hour a day to do actual shelving. What the hell? Page here, isn't it my job to shelve? 2) their shelves are in HORRIBLE order. It's supposed to be by the last name of the author, then the title of the book. If there is more than one author with the same name (like Smith) then it's by first name. From wht I've seen, it's lucky if they're by the same first letter. Most of the S's are together, but all the Smiths? Not so much.

Number 6) Having a coffee stand at work is cool. Buying coffee three or four times a day... Pricey. Sidenote--not special coffee; I just get the drip. Cost a dollar. Still, I've spent like, 16 bucks in four days on drip coffee. Mental note: buy a cup, bring my drink with me.

Number 7) Whose moronic idea was it not to have a restroom on a main floor? Idiot! Stupid dumbass designer of that ugly ass building.

Number 8) Okay, my floor, the "Fiction" "Fifth Avenue" "Third Floor" is pretty awesome in one respect. On the one side, the "Living Room" side, you're in kind of a glass prism, so above you is those diamond shaped windows. It will be cool when it rains. If it ever freaking does! Not so cool when it's sunny. Lots of glare.

Number 9) Air vents in the floor are handy! If you get to hot, just sit on one. Cool you right off. Possibly they also are the heating vents, so if you get cold... Gives new meaning to the idea of having a hot ass.
