I am doing Nanowrimo again (national novel writing month) and it's not going all that well. I am not talking about the world count; I don't really have too much trouble with that ever. The problem I'm having is the story itself. I'm not that happy with it. Not excited about it. It's sad because last year I absolutely loved the story I was writing and the characters were great. This year, the main character is ok... but the rest of them are not fleshing out so well. And the plot is mediocre. It's alright I suppose. I'm getting a couple interesting tidbits out of it that I can use elsewhere, plus hopefully all my bad writing is being used up on a throwaway story.
The trouble is now I'm not sure if I should keep going or just give up. I mean, I know I can make it to fifty thousand... I just don't necessarily see the point if I'm not going to use the story for anything. Well, on the other hand, I've already written 25,000 and it seems a little silly to go through all that work and not finish.
Although, I was just thinking about it and I realize that I have about a dozen stories that are sitting right at 25,000 words. Stories I like better... Maybe I should stop writing this and work on finishing one of those.
Well, I'll think it over.
